More on Guns...
The following quotes are of uncertain origin, but I think they express some thoughts about guns that are relevant and true.
1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3. I carry a gun 'cause a cop is too heavy.
4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him, 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'
6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'
8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!
I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said, "Well, I certainly hope it isn't loaded!" To which I said, "Of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!" She then asked, "Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?" My reply was, "No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too." To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

Anti-gun legislation isn't really anti-gun; it doesn't mandate fewer guns. It simply says, "I want someone other than you, someone of my choosing, to be responsible for your protection." What arrogance. How insulting.
Remember a few years ago - a couple of Israeli soldiers were taken captive by the Palestinians, and Israel responded by blowing the bejeepers out of Palestine?
The Palestinian's response was, "We thought they'd just take some of our guys captive - we didn't know they'd react this way!" The international community, especially the UN, was highly upset by this. Why not allow the UN to diplomatically manage this?!!
Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis said, "The makers of the Constitution conferred the most comprehensive of rights and the right most valued by all civilized men—the right to be let alone."
People initially came to America to be left alone. They later came for opportunity. In both cases the motivation was freedom. When an individual owns or carries a gun, whether he knows it or not, he is expressing a desire for freedom. He is saying, "I'll take care of myself. I don't want to depend on someone else."
Isn't taking care of one's self what being a grownup is all about? Don't treat me like a child and say you'll protect me. I'm a big boy now. Besides, I care more about my family than the cops do.
Anyway, I'm getting longwinded. good quotes!
Calling all gun owners killers and wanton criminals is like saying all men are rapists. Just because we have the equipment and the means to use it, does not make us criminals.
As you say, I just want to continue to be free and to be let alone.
The only reason older siblings torment and tease younger siblings is because the younger has no means of defending himself or fighting back. Imagine it...if the next time a 12 year old picks on his 8 yr old brother, the 8 yr old makes a fist and bashes the 12 yr on the face so hard it knocks him down...how often do you think that 12 yr old is going to want to repeat that occurrence? Have you noticed that sibling tormenting generally ends when both parties are relatively the same size and mobility?
I want criminals, ne'erdowells, and other miscreants to know that if they mess with me, they are going to get a sting that may cost them more than they bargained for.
